Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
